And then Tuesday, I heard the news that the father of one of my mentors has passed away. This saddened & grieved me immensely, especially since I am not sure of his being truly saved or not.
This (& other things) made me start thinking...
"Come now, you who say, 'Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit'— yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, 'If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.'" - James 4:13-15
Therefore, if our lives ARE as short as this verse says (in the grand scheme of things), we should be doing everything that we can to ensure that all of our family & friends know Jesus as Lord. Do you feel urgency of the situation?
We do not know the day nor the hour, both of our Lord's return (Matthew 24:36-44) nor of our own deaths (James 4:13-15). The times are uncertain. Apart from Christ there is no hope. But we, the believers, are unafraid & unshaken. Our hope is sure. We walk by faith (Hebrews 11:1, 2 Corinthians 5:7).
Make the most of the time that has been given to you (Luke 12:48b, Matthew 25:14-46, Matthew 28:19-20). Be a faithful witness to the Truth. Work hard to preserve what the Lord has entrusted to you. Reach out to your family & friends with the Gospel Truth. Invest in what really matters. Remember: Only what's done for Christ will last. And our time is short.
